On August 12, 2008 the Simsbury Police Department investigated a complaint that a small black cat attacked a person without provocation on August 11, 2008 in the area of Candlewood Court and Hopmeadow Street (Route 10) in Simsbury. The person sustained minor scratches from the cat. The cat was not known to witnesses. The police department animal control officer located, observed and captured the cat on August 12. The cat appeared to be feral, sick and it was held for examination. On the following day, the Department of Public Health reported that the cat tested positive for rabies.
